The Church worldwide observes Pentecost 7 Sundays after Easter:

“It is also called the Feast of Weeks (Exodus 34:22), with this name coming from the seven weeks plus one day (50 days in all) that are counted to determine when to celebrate this festival (Leviticus 23:16). Similarly, in the New Testament, which was written in Greek, this festival is known as Pentecost (Pentekostos in the original), which means ‘fiftieth’ (Acts 2:1-4).” – W.E. Vine, Vine’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, 1985, “Pentecost”

After Christ ascended to heaven as the disciples watched, they waited in Jerusalem as they had been told to do. A few days later was the Day of Pentecost. That is when God chose to send the Comforter/ Holy Spirit to the Christ followers.

That very day, Scripture records, Peter spoke to large crowds that were in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast. “So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls” (Acts 2:41 ESV).

As we observe this Day of Pentecost, we are reminded of what God’s Holy Spirit can do, and we pray with renewed urgency toward our 2k22 vision for Lincoln County:

We believe that by 2022, through God’s grace and power, we will see 2,000 people baptized and growing in relationship with Jesus through the Word, prayer, and community.

How can you play a part? Pray for those who don’t yet know Jesus, and share your life with them so they can experience good news through your words and actions. See suggestions below:
