Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. He accepted worship (Mt. 2:11, 14:33, 28:9, 28:17; Lk. 24:52; Jn. 9:38, 20:28). He forgave sin (Lk. 5:17-26). He declared himself equal with God (Jn. 5:17-18, 8:58, 10:30-33). If his claim is true, then he has a right to call the shots – to be Lord of our lives. If his claim is not true, he is either a liar, or else he is a lunatic who believed he was God even though he really wasn't.
The apostle Paul writes of Jesus:
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
– Colossians 1:15-20 ESV
So if Jesus really is God, as he claimed to be, and if therefore he really does have the right to be the Lord of our lives – of your life – how would it change the way you think, the way you feel, and the way you live this life?
