May 17 - The True Vine (Jn. 15:1-17)

Keep growing in your relationship with Jesus: Take the message with you into your week. Reflect on the Bible passage and sermon (posts Sun. afternoon), then use the ideas below to help you talk it over with your friends, coworkers, family, or Grow Group.

Icebreaker idea: What’s your favorite kind of fruit?

A way to pray: Ask the Lord to help us abide in Him and bear much fruit (and lasting fruit!). Pray that we’ll be a blessing to others and that our fruitful lives will draw others to Him – that we’ll see 2,000 people by 2022 baptized and growing in relationship with Jesus through the Word, prayer, and community.

Talk It Over:

  • What’s one thing I appreciate right now about what the Lord has done or continues to do for me? What changes – in my attitude, my actions, or the way my behavior impacts others – signal genuine fruit from a grateful heart?

  • How have I been “blessed to be a blessing”? Available time? An encouraging personality? Helpful skills? Material generosity? Spiritual wisdom? How can I practically share these blessings with others?

May 10 - The Door and Good Shepherd (John 10:1-18)

Keep growing in your relationship with Jesus: Take the message with you into your week. Reflect on the Bible passage and sermon (posts Sun. afternoon), then use the ideas below to help you talk it over with your friends, coworkers, family, or Grow Group.

Icebreaker idea: What’s one positive example of self-sacrifice you’ve seen or experienced?

A way to pray: Ask the Lord to help us grow in bringing peace, life, and love into the situations He places us in. Pray that our lives would point others to Him as we seek to see 2,000 people by 2022 baptized and growing in relationship with Jesus through the Word, prayer, and community.

Talk It Over:

  • How does knowing that Jesus willingly laid down His life reframe the way I view His crucifixion? In what practical ways can I lay down my own life for others today?

  • In which of my relationships is it hardest for me to be peace-giving, life-giving, and self-giving? How can my Grow Group (and/or other Jesus-believing friends) help me grow in this?

May 3 - THE Way, Truth, Life & Light (Jn. 13:36-14:7; 8:12; 9:5)

Keep growing in your relationship with Jesus: Take the message with you into your week. Reflect on the Bible passage and sermon (posts Sun. afternoon), then use the ideas below to help you talk it over with your friends, coworkers, family, or Grow Group.

Icebreaker idea: When in your life would you say you were physically at your strongest? What about emotionally or spiritually?

A way to pray: Spend time admitting weaknesses to the Lord, thanking Him for His strength, and asking Him to move you beyond those weaknesses. Pray for those who don’t know Him to be able to realize their own weaknesses, too, as we seek to see 2,000 people by 2022 baptized and growing in relationship with Jesus through the Word, prayer, and community.

Talk It Over:

  • If it’s true that Jesus knows our weaknesses fully and forgives them perfectly, then why do we feel the need at times to hide them from others? What can I do practically to grow in this area?

  • What keeps me stuck in my current weakness? In what ways do I see Jesus seeking me, changing me, working to lead me out of darkness into His marvelous light?

A way to pray: Pray for one another to grow in finding deep satisfaction in Jesus. Talk It Over:

  • What am I most likely to hunger for: comfort? control? approval? power? Have I found enduring satisfaction in any of these areas? If not, why not?

  • What examples can I think of – in my own life or others’ – where belief in Jesus has led to personal transformation and lasting satisfaction? What are some practical ways I can “feed on Jesus” to nurture this kind of growth?
