May 12 - Loving Others (Jn. 18:1-11)

First listen to the sermon (posts Sun. afternoon). Then use the ideas below to help you and your group apply what the Lord is teaching you.

Icebreaker idea: Share about a time when someone made you feel loved. What did they do? Why did that communicate love to you?

A way to pray: Pray for one another to love sacrificially, especially in the areas you identify in the group discussion (below). Ask the Lord to use His love flowing through us to draw many people to Himself, as we seek to see 2,000 people by 2022 baptized and growing in relationship with Jesus through the Word, prayer, and community.

Talk It Over:

  • Treasuring God: Jesus moved courageously, protected selflessly, and surrendered willingly – for me! What aspect of this do I especially appreciate?

  • Being Transformed: In what areas of my life do I need God to help me also move courageously, protect selflessly, or surrender willingly?

  • Loving Others: What steps can we take to courageously love people outside the church? What keeps us from moving forward? What step will I take right now?

  • Pursuing Unity: How can surrender unite believers? Why is it so hard? In what current relationship(s) would my willing surrender be a real pathway to peace?
