Peace & Hope (Part 2)

We've just seen how Paul starts his letter to the Romans by laying Gospel Foundations: our need to be justified (declared "not guilty") by God and how He makes this possible through faith alone. So…now what? In chapters 5-8, Paul shifts his focus to what this gospel produces. He highlights the fruit (benefits) the gospel brings to those who believe it, and how this in turn produces even more fruit (Christ-honoring attitudes and actions) in their lives. Join in as we delight in our justification ("not guilty!"), peace, hope, reconciliation, freedom from sin, and Spirit-filling, among so many other amazing Gospel Fruits!

Worship as a Family

• Mother's Room: Care for your baby and still connect to the gathering via livestream – follow signs north of auditorium. • Children (infant-grade 6): Kids Connect is available at 9:15 and 11 a.m. – check-in inside east doors or upstairs from foyer. Kids also welcome in large gatherings; activity bags at back of auditorium to help them engage. • Students (grades 6-12): Sola gathers on Wednesdays – middle school from 6-7:45 p.m. and high school from 7:30-9 p.m.

Worship through Prayer

• Saturday evening: 7-7:30 p.m., meet at main office to start. • 24-7 prayer room: Available at the Caring Center (8th & Jeffers, north door, entry code 0633). • This week: Pray for all our graduates over the coming weeks – that they will have a genuine and growing relationship with Jesus, walking with him into their future. Ask the Lord to give guidance and wisdom to our Deacons as they meet this week.

• What would it take for you to willingly lay down your life for another? How does this make Christ’s sacrifice even more precious?
• Share examples of God’s wrath in the Bible (see npberean.org/beyond25 for examples of the same Greek word that Paul uses in Rom. 5:9). In this light, what does being saved by Christ from the wrath of God mean in this week’s passage?

Live it out
• Christ reconciled us to God while we were still sinners. How could you move toward reconciliation with someone who has sinned against you?

Baptism is a public witness of an internal reality, that the person has passed from death to life by trusting Jesus for salvation. Today we'll be baptizing Tobi Hardin.

Next Week's Sermon

Paul concludes chapter 5 with a reminder of the devastation of the trespass/sin of the first man, Adam. But even in doing this, he reminds the Roman believers of the hope and life brought by the obedience of the "better Adam" - Jesus Christ. Either man can represent us, but which one does? Are we "in" the line of the one who brought death or the other who brings life?
