Summer 2018 Prayer Walking

“Lord, teach us to pray!” (Luke 11:1-4, Matthew 6:9-13)
Join our summer prayer walking challenge! Simply walk around your neighborhood 3 or more days each week, praying for your neighbors as you go. This summer’s prayer walking challenge runs from Sunday, 6/10 through Saturday, 9/1. See below for some practical steps to help you get started, followed by specific prompts to help direct your prayers each week of the challenge. Be sure to check back each Sunday for the week’s new prayer prompts!

10 Steps to Prayer Walking

1. Prayerfully submit yourself to God.
●  Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
●  Put on the whole armor of God. (Ephesians 6:12-18)
2. Praise God for His awesomeness.
The Creator of all things and God over everything, including the powers of evil. (Deuteronomy 10:17; Psalm 66:1-5)
3. Bless the community.
God desires to bring blessing, joy, and peace to this neighborhood. (Isaiah 55:10-12)
4. Bless those who serve us in this city.
Bless those providing food, water, electricity, security, sanitation, education, health, communications, and essential services. (Proverbs 11:11; Jeremiah 29:7)
5. Bless and pray for those who have authority over us.
Pray for the mayor, city council, and law enforcers. Pray against corruption, greed, exploitation, oppression, and evil that ensnares. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
6. Pray blessing into the households as you walk past them.
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing to families here. (Luke 10:5; Genesis 12:3)
7. Repent on behalf of the city.
●  The fallen state of our cities is the outcome of evil. (Lamentations 4:12-13)
●  Ask God to forgive sins, present and past, which have defiled the community. (Nehemiah 1:5-7)
8. Bind the “strong man.”
Pray against the enemy’s power enslaving our neighborhoods in sin. Break the yoke of evil. Expel demonic forces. Identify and “tear down” centers of iniquity. (Matthew 12:28-30; 2 Corinthians 4:4, 10:3-5)
9. Find the “person of peace.”
If the Lord connects you with one who responds well to what you are doing, this is the person of peace who will open the door into the community. If invited into this home, go in and accept what you are served. (Matthew 10:11-12)
10. Connect this household with your church.
Invite those in this home to experience the love and life of the Berean family.

Weekly Prayer Prompts

Prayer Prompts – Week 6 (7/15-7/21)

While it is important to pray for individual unbelievers, don’t forget to also lift up the leaders who can impact our city so strongly. As you are led by the Spirit in prayer, also consider this focus:
This week’s theme: Pray for leaders and those in authority over us (1 Tim. 2:1-4)
  • Day 1: Pray for wisdom (James 1:5)
  • Day 2: Pray with respect (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13)
  • Day 3: Pray for safety and courage (Joshua 1:9)

Prayer Prompts – Week 5 (7/8-7/14)

As you walk through your neighborhoods, may the Spirit lead your praying to specifically pray for unbelievers.
This week’s theme: Claim them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 4:10)
  • Day 1: Pray He will open doors to tell people about Jesus (Luke 10:5-9)
  • Day 2: Pray for open eyes, hearts, and minds (2 Corinthians 4:3-6)
  • Day 3: Pray for people to be transformed by the gospel (Romans 12:2)

Prayer Prompts – Week 4 (7/1-7/7)

You are already in the second month of prayer walking! We’re praying you will continue strong and not be discouraged by the enemy. As you pray as the Spirit leads, also consider praying for protection:
This week’s theme: Pray for a hedge of protection from the enemy (Job 1:10)
  • Day 1: Pray that God will strengthen and mature us (1 Peter 5:8-10)
  • Day 2: Pray that the Lord will destroy the schemes of the devil (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
  • Day 3: Pray that He will dispel darkness (1 Peter 2:9)

Prayer Prompts – Week 3 (6/24-6/30)

Isn’t it such an encouragement to think of people prayer walking all over our community? This week, in addition to praying as the Spirit leads, consider your brothers and sisters in Christ:
This week’s theme: Pray for the Body of Christ (James 5:16)
  • Day 1: Pray for unity and love for each other (Ephesians 4:1-3)
  • Day 2: Pray for revival – Stir us to prayer and boldness to speak the name of Jesus (Ephesians 6:18-19)
  • Day 3:Pray for North Platte Berean and other churches to put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-17)
